BJP National General Secretary Smriti Irani held a significant press conference in New Delhi following the counting of votes for five assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat across three states on Friday, while during the briefing, she expressed immense satisfaction with the performance of BJP and NDA candidates, stating that the election results are a testament to the strength of Indian democracy. Irani extended her heartfelt congratulations to the winning candidates and the party workers who contributed to these historic outcomes. She emphasized that the mandate reflects the people's preference for stability and development over disruptive politics.
Victory in Key Constituencies and Minority Areas
Irani highlighted the diverse nature of the victories, pointing towards the success of the NDA representative in Puducherry. She noted that the results coming from West Bengal and Assam are particularly historic and indicative of a changing political landscape. In West Bengal, she mentioned that the BJP is moving towards a decisive victory in Nandigram, a seat of great political significance. On top of that, she pointed out the party's lead in Rejinagar, a constituency where approximately 71 percent of the voters belong to the minority community. This lead, according to Irani, reflects the public's trust in the BJP's promise of good governance regardless of demographic backgrounds. In Assam's Nagaon, the trends from the vote counting also indicated a clear victory for the BJP, for which she thanked the voters of these states for their participation and trust.
Democracy vs Mobocracy
A central theme of Smriti Irani's address was the triumph of democratic processes over what she termed as mobocracy. She stated that the voters have given a fitting reply to those who rely on mob tactics rather than the ballot box. By saying that democracy has answered mobocracy, she underscored the importance of constitutional methods in a vibrant republic. She reiterated that the BJP workers are energized by the news of victory, especially in regions where the party has faced significant challenges. The results, she argued, show that the common citizen values the rule of law and the institutional integrity of the nation.
Attack on Congress and the Indian State Remark
Smriti Irani launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, specifically referencing a statement made by the Congress President on January 15, 2025. She pointed out that the Congress leader had claimed their fight wasn't against the BJP but against the Indian State itself. Irani described this statement as a matter of grave concern and a subject of intense discussion. She remarked that in the history of India, no political leader had ever spoken about attacking the country and its people in such a manner. She reminded the audience that constitutional institutions are designed to establish, protect, and strengthen democracy, and any attack on the Indian State is an attack on these very foundations.
Allegations Against Congress MP and Leadership Silence
The press conference also touched upon serious allegations involving a Congress Member of Parliament working at JNU. Irani stated that female students had leveled allegations against the MP regarding marks and academic conduct. She noted that these allegations were verified by an Internal Committee. Despite the verification of these claims, Irani criticized Rahul Gandhi for remaining silent on the issue. She further highlighted that the outgoing President of the Congress party took no action against the individual involved. Adding to the criticism, she mentioned recent reports of misconduct by the same individual with female police personnel. Irani questioned whether any action could be expected from the Congress leadership, concluding that while giving slogans is easy, taking ethical action is where the party fails.
