Nepal New PM: A historic moment came in Nepal when Sushila Karki was sworn in as the country's first female interim Prime Minister. Karki started practicing law in Biratnagar in 1979 and also worked as an assistant teacher at Mahendra Multiple Campus in Dharan in 1985.Judicial career and historical achievementsSushila Karki's judicial career has been remarkable. In 2009, she was appointed a temporary judge in the Supreme Court. In 2010, she became a permanent judge and was the acting Chief Justice for some time in 2016. From 11 July 2016 to 6 June 2017, she served as the first female Chief Justice of Nepal. During this time, she took many important decisions, which underlined her impartiality and courage.Impeachment controversy and public supportIn April 2017, the then government presented an impeachment motion against her in Parliament. After this motion, she was suspended from the post of Chief Justice. However, the public held widespread demonstrations in support of the independence of the judiciary.
