The Indian cricket team is currently navigating a period of transition as they conclude a difficult T20 series in England and prepare for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) challenges. The T20 leg of the England tour ended on a disappointing note for the Men in Blue, as the team failed to secure a single victory throughout the series. With the T20 chapter closed, the focus has now shifted to the 3 match ODI series against England, which is scheduled to begin on July 14. This series is seen as a crucial opportunity for the Indian team to regain its prestige and find form in the 50 over format. However, even before the first ball is bowled in the ODI series, the team has been hit by injury concerns that have forced the management to make immediate changes to the squad.
Injury Setbacks for Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy
Just one day after the conclusion of the T20 series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an official statement regarding the fitness of the players and the subsequent changes in the squads for the upcoming tours. The medical reports indicated that two key players have sustained hamstring injuries. Fast bowler Harshit Rana has been diagnosed with a Grade-1 hamstring injury, which has effectively ruled him out of the ODI series against England. On the other hand, spinner Varun Chakravarthy is dealing with a more severe Grade-2 hamstring injury. This injury means that Chakravarthy won't be able to travel for the Zimbabwe tour, where India is set to play a 3 match T20 series starting from July 23.
The Return of Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi
In light of these injuries, the BCCI has named replacements who have recently been part of the national setup. Interestingly, both Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi were part of previous assignments but were initially dropped for these specific tours. Prince Yadav, who made an impressive debut in the previous ODI series against Afghanistan, has been called up to replace Harshit Rana in the ODI squad for the England series. Similarly, Ravi Bishnoi, who was part of the T20 squads for the Ireland and England series but wasn't originally selected for the Zimbabwe tour, has now been recalled to replace Varun Chakravarthy. This turn of events marks a significant comeback for both players who find themselves back in the national colors due to these unforeseen circumstances.
