Operation Sindoor: Recently, Operation Sindoor was discussed in the Lok Sabha, in which External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar elaborated on India's zero tolerance policy against terrorism and the steps taken in this direction. He told the House that India took strict and concrete steps after the Pahalgam terror attack, aimed at exposing Pakistan's terrorism-sponsored conspiracies and making the international community aware of its reality.

Zero tolerance policy against terrorism

The External Affairs Minister said, "Our policy against terrorism is of zero tolerance. We strongly put our point in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and told the world that India will not tolerate terrorism in any form. The UNSC accepted India's stand." He also clarified that the main objective of the Ministry of External Affairs was to expose Pakistan's conspiracies on the global platform.

Jaishankar said that India took quick and strict steps after the Pahalgam attack. He said, "Our aim was to give a clear, strong and firm message that terrorism will have serious consequences." For this, five important decisions were taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs on 23 April:

  • The Indus Water Treaty of 1960 will be suspended with immediate effect, until Pakistan stops supporting cross-border terrorism.
  • It was decided to close the Attari check post with immediate effect.
  • Pakistani citizens will no longer be allowed to travel under the SARC visa exemption scheme.
  • Defense, naval and air advisers of the Pakistani High Commission will be declared persona non grata.
  • The total number of Pakistani High Commissions will be reduced from 55 to 30.
Exposing Pakistan before the global community

Jaishankar said that India's diplomatic effort was to bring the truth behind the Pahalgam attack to the world. He said, "We explained to the international community that cross-border terrorism has been used by Pakistan for a long time. The purpose of this attack was to harm the economy of Jammu and Kashmir and spread communal tension in India." He also clarified that India did not limit its response to military action only, but also showed activism at the diplomatic and foreign policy level.

US claims rejected

The Foreign Minister rejected US President Donald Trump's claim in which he talked about mediation between India and Pakistan. Jaishankar clarified, "There was no mediator between India and Pakistan." He also told that on May 9, US Vice President JD Vance called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and informed him about a possible major attack by Pakistan. To this, PM Modi replied that India would give a befitting reply to Pakistan.

Jaishankar said that India retaliated responsibly and informed the international community about its position.
