Indian Army - This system will destroy Pakistani missiles, the army has made a big deal
Indian Army: To further strengthen the security of its borders, India is going to deploy the indigenously developed air defense system 'Anant Shastra'. This is a surface-to-air missile system, formerly known as the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM). Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Army has issued a tender to the state-owned company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for this system. The project, costing approximately ₹30,000 crore, aims to further strengthen India's air defense capabilities along the borders with Pakistan and China.Emphasis on IndigenizationArmy Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has prioritized indigenization and has taken several steps in this direction. Along with 'Anant Shastra', the Zorawar light tank and other indigenous air defense platforms will soon be part of the Indian Army. This step is an important initiative towards making India self-reliant in the defense sector.Key Role in Operation SindoorThe Army's Air Defense (AAD) unit played a key role in responding to Pakistani drone attacks during Operation Sindoor. Currently, the AAD, in collaboration with the Indian Air Force, uses systems like the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) and Akash to counter aerial threats. The Defense Acquisition Council approved the procurement of this system in May, shortly after Operation Sindoor. Anant Shastra is a mobile system capable of detecting, tracking, and engaging moving targets. Its range is approximately 30 kilometers, providing further strength to the existing MRSAM and Akash systems.A Befitting Reply to PakistanAccording to officials, this missile system has been successfully tested under day and night conditions. During the four-day conflict with Pakistan, in which Pakistan used Chinese equipment, Indian Army air defense units effectively used L-70 and Zu-23 guns, as well as Akash and MRSAM systems. In addition, the Indian Air Force deployed Spyder and S-400 systems.Future PlansThe Army's air defense branch is now in the process of inducting advanced radars, very short-range missile systems, jammers, and laser-based systems to counter Pakistani drones equipped with Turkish and Chinese technology. This move will further strengthen India's defense preparedness, especially in sensitive border areas.
