Team India Coach: The BCCI was looking for a new coach for the Indian women's cricket team for a long time. Now the name of a veteran player has come to the fore for this post. He is none other than Amol Mazumdar, who is a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket. Majumdar is all set to become the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team after impressing the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

CAC was impressed

Majumdar most impressed the CAC comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik with his 90-minute presentation during the interview of the selected candidates in Mumbai on Monday. Others interviewed to coach the team included former Durham coach John Lewis and Tushar Arothe. Arothe has also served as India's head coach before resigning in 2018. The Indian women's team has been without a head coach since the sacking of Ramesh Powar in December last year.

Amol was most liked by the committee

The BCCI official told 'PTI-Bhasha', "The CAC was most impressed by Amol's presentation. He is clear about the plans for the women's team. Other performances were also good but Amol's performance was the best. It is expected that his name will be approved for this work. Majumdar was till recently the head coach of the Mumbai Ranji team. He has also worked with the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals and the South African national team. He was the only candidate to appear for the interview in person.

Announcement will be made before Bangladesh tour

Mazumdar can be handed over the responsibility of the team before the Bangladesh tour starting on 9 July. The Indian team will play three T20 Internationals and as many ODIs in Mirpur on this tour. The Indian team has failed to win in the last five years in important matches of big tournaments even after being in good shape. The team has not won any ICC title so far. Majumdar is likely to get a two-year contract. He will be expected to play his part in India's maiden ICC title in the T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh in September-October next year.

Eyes on strengthening the team

The new head coach will focus on improving the physical fitness of the players apart from working on their mental strength. A BCCI source said that improving fitness is a big issue for the women's team. Some players in the national team will have to work hard to improve their fitness. Mazumdar also explained in detail about the need and role of associate members. He also stressed the need for a mental trainer for the team. The board official said that Mazumdar is aware of what needs to be done to take the team to the next level. Please tell that Majumdar has scored 11,167 runs in first class cricket but could never make a place in the Indian team.
