United States President Donald Trump has taken a significant and stringent step amid escalating tensions with Iran by ordering the US military to take direct action. Trump directed the US Navy to "shoot down and destroy" any Iranian small boats that are found laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, while posting on social media, Trump stated, "I've instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats, no matter how small, if they're seen laying mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.

Mine Clearance Operations and Strategic Importance

President Trump further revealed that the US Navy is currently working to clear naval mines from this critical maritime corridor. He has ordered the acceleration of this operation, directing it to be tripled in speed. The Strait of Hormuz is recognized as one of the world's most vital shipping lanes, through which a massive portion of the global oil supply passes. The increasing friction in this region has become a matter of international concern, as the movement of vessels has been impacted by the ongoing standoff between the US and Iran over the past few weeks.

Claims Regarding the Release of Female Protesters

In a separate statement, Trump claimed that Iran had respected his appeal regarding the treatment of certain female protesters, while he reported receiving information that 4 women would be "released immediately," while another 4 would be sentenced to one month each. Writing on his social media platform, Trump expressed appreciation that Iran and its leaders honored his request and halted the proposed executions. According to Trump, these women were scheduled to be executed on Wednesday.

Disputes Over Claims and Iran's Rejection

However, human rights organizations have presented a different account of the situation. They stated that 2 of these women had already been released on bail back in March, while the other 2 face charges that could potentially carry the death penalty. All these individuals were arrested during anti-government protests in January. On Tuesday, Trump shared a photo of these women on social media, which included two teenage girls, while this image was posted based on information shared by a conservative activist, suggesting the women were facing trial in Iran. Meanwhile, Iran has completely rejected the claims made by Trump.
