United States President Donald Trump has sparked a significant international dialogue regarding a potential ceasefire with Iran, asserting that he's on the verge of making a final decision. Through a series of statements shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump outlined a set of stringent conditions that he claims are central to the ongoing negotiations. The President emphasized that for any agreement to proceed, Iran must formally accept that they will never, under any circumstances, manufacture nuclear weapons or bombs. This demand remains a cornerstone of the American position, aimed at ensuring long-term regional stability and preventing nuclear proliferation.
Trump's Conditions for the Strait of Hormuz
A major component of Trump's proposed terms involves the immediate and unconditional opening of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the President, the waterway must be accessible for easy ship traffic in both directions without the imposition of any tolls. Trump further addressed the issue of maritime security, stating that any submerged mines or explosive devices currently in the water must be destroyed or removed. He claimed that the United States has already utilized its powerful submerged mine-clearing equipment to detonate and remove numerous such hazards. Under the proposed terms, Iran would be responsible for immediately clearing or destroying any remaining mines, which Trump suggested would be very few in number.
Nuclear Material and Financial Restrictions
Regarding Iran's nuclear program, Trump stated that Iran must reach a definitive agreement concerning its uranium stocks. The proposal requires Iran to extract and completely destroy enriched uranium in close coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Plus, Trump clarified that there would be no transfer of funds or financial transactions until further notice. While he mentioned that other less significant terms have already been agreed upon, the President noted that he's currently conducting a meeting in the Situation Room to finalize his stance on the matter.
Iran's Rebuttal and Counter-Demands
" Iranian officials argued that Trump is misrepresenting the actual terms of the potential agreement. Specifically, Iran denied that they've agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz for free or to destroy their nuclear materials as part of the current discussions, stating that these points aren't included in the agreement. Before any further progress can be made, Iran has set its own prerequisites. They're demanding that the United States immediately unblock 12 billion dollars of Iranian assets. On top of that, Iran is calling for a full ceasefire in Lebanon, specifically on terms favorable to Hezbollah. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, while the exchange of messages continues, no final agreement has been reached, and the deal still awaits final approval within Iran. Informed sources have described Trump's statements as a mixture of truth and fabrication, characterizing them as an attempt to claim a premature victory.
