Uttarakhand govt announces night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am from today amid Omicron

Dehradun: As India's Omicron tally continues to rise, Uttarakhand on Monday evening became the latest state to impose a night curfew. As per updates shared by the state police, the new restrictions will go into effect from today to control the new variant of COVID-19. 

"Night curfew will be in place from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. During this all essential services will continue and movement will be allowed for essential work," the Uttarakhand Police tweeted. 

As per the order issued by Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, essential services such as movement of ambulances, vehicles carrying health personnel and postal services have been exempted. Private vehicles will also be allowed to commute for emergencies during the night - as long as they strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols. The production, transportation and distribution of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG has also been exempted.

Following the announcement, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had urged everyone to be careful and continue to follow all COVID-19 guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus.
