Yamaha has officially unveiled the updated Tricity 300, marking a significant milestone in two-wheeler safety as the world's first production scooter equipped with an integrated airbag system. Developed in collaboration with safety specialist Autoliv, the three-wheeled scooter aims to provide enhanced protection for urban commuters. This innovation follows extensive research into rider safety during frontal collisions, positioning Yamaha at the forefront of safety technology in the scooter segment.

Airbag Technology and Safety Mechanisms

The core highlight of the Yamaha Tricity 300 is the airbag module housed within the front apron. This system utilizes advanced electronic sensors designed to detect sudden impacts or rapid deceleration. Upon detecting a frontal collision, the airbag deploys instantaneously to cushion the rider and reduce forward momentum, while unlike automotive airbags that work with seatbelts, this system is specifically engineered to mitigate the risk of the rider being thrown forward, having undergone rigorous simulation and real-world crash testing.

Design and Aesthetic Enhancements

The latest iteration of the Tricity 300 features a refreshed design language aimed at a more modern and sporty appeal. It incorporates new LED lighting units and redesigned front body panels that accommodate the airbag system without compromising aerodynamics. The rear section now sports split-style tail lamps. Yamaha has also introduced a new palette of color options, including Milky White, Zen Green, and Power Grey, to cater to diverse consumer preferences.

Technical Specifications and Performance

9 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain is mated to a V-belt automatic gearbox for smooth urban operation. 3 KMPL. While the engine architecture remains consistent with previous models, it has been updated with a new catalytic converter to ensure compliance with the latest international emission standards.

Advanced Electronics and Connectivity

8-inch LCD screen. It offers integrated Garmin navigation and smartphone connectivity via the MyRide app, allowing riders to manage calls and music alerts. Additional convenience features include keyless ignition, a parking brake, and Yamaha's Standing Assist system, which helps maintain the vehicle's upright position at low speeds or when stationary.

Market Availability and Variants

Yamaha plans to commence sales of the Tricity 300 in the European market starting in 2026. Buyers will have the option to choose between the standard version and the premium variant equipped with the airbag system. As of now, the company has not indicated any immediate plans to introduce this three-wheeled model to the Indian market, focusing primarily on regions with high demand for large-capacity multi-wheel scooters.
