Due to this injury, he had to retire hurt and was immediately admitted to the hospital, while consequently, he was ruled out of the second Test match and the entire ODI series, which was a significant blow to the team. In his absence during the ODI series, KL Rahul took over the captaincy responsibilities. To regain his fitness, Gill spent several days at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, while after receiving clearance from the medical team at CoE, he first practiced batting and then fielding, ensuring his complete recovery. His dedication and hard work have enabled him to get fit in time for the crucial series.

Shubman Gill is currently a permanent fixture in India's Test and ODI teams, and he holds the vice-captaincy role in T20I cricket. He made his T20I debut for Team India in 2023. In his relatively short T20I career, he has accumulated a total of 837 runs in 33 matches.
