Rajasthan Politics / Congress woman MLA said- Speaker listens to our private conversations- Women are not safe in the House

The controversy over the spy cameras installed by the opposition in the assembly is deepening. Congress women MLAs Shimla Nayak and Geeta Barwad alleged that the speaker and ministers listen to their private conversations through these cameras. They called it a violation of privacy and demanded an investigation and action.

Rajasthan Politics: The issue of installing additional cameras towards the opposition seats in the Rajasthan Assembly is getting heated. Congress women MLAs have made serious allegations against the Assembly Speaker. Anupgarh MLA Shimla Nayak and Bhopalgarh MLA Geeta Barbar have claimed that two "spy cameras" are recording their private conversations and activities, thereby violating their privacy.

Questions on privacy due to spy cameras

While talking to the media at the state Congress headquarters, Shimla Nayak said, "There were already 9 cameras in the Assembly, but through two additional spy cameras, the Speaker and some ministers listen to our conversations and watch our activities. These cameras are of such high resolution that even if a pen falls, its sound gets recorded."

He further said, "These cameras capture everything from our strategy to private conversations and documents written on paper. They have access to the Speaker's rest room, where BJP MLAs and ministers listen to our conversations. This is a blatant violation of our privacy."

Demand to show hard disk

Shimla Nayak raised the question, "With whose permission were these spy cameras installed? Their hard disks should be shown to see what is being recorded. Who gave the Speaker the right to listen to our private conversations?" She cited the Supreme Court's decision, which said that private recording without permission is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution.

Women MLAs are feeling unsafe

Bhopalgarh MLA Geeta Barbar said, "These two spy cameras have been installed specifically towards the opposition's seats. They are always on, even after the House is adjourned. This is violating our privacy. We make strategies in the House, have private conversations, but these cameras are recording everything. Will privacy now be limited only to bathrooms and bedrooms?"

She also expressed displeasure over the statement of a BJP MLA, in which objectionable comments were made about the protest. Calling it an insult to women, Geeta said, "This is a serious issue. We are not able to feel safe even in the House."

Congress's demand

All the women MLAs of Congress have lodged strong protest on this issue. They have demanded that the recording of these cameras be disclosed and it should be clear who gave permission to install them. Also, they have demanded immediate removal of these cameras.

The matter is taking a political turn

This controversy has now taken a political turn. Congress alleges that these cameras are not only violating their privacy but are also an attempt to weaken the strategy of the opposition. On the other hand, the ruling BJP has not yet issued any official statement on this matter.
