IND vs AUS ODI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of the ODI team, replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain. The selectors believe it's important to prepare Gill for the 2027 ODI World Cup and give him the captaincy now. However, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh is unhappy with this decision. He says Rohit Sharma should have been given the captaincy for a longer period. Not seeing Rohit as captain is surprising: Harbhajan SinghHarbhajan Singh congratulated Shubman Gill, saying, "Shubman has certainly been a brilliant leader in Test cricket, and now he's been given that responsibility in ODIs as well. But Rohit Sharma has a stellar record in white-ball cricket. Not seeing him as captain is surprising to me." Harbhajan further added that Rohit recently led India to the ICC Champions Trophy, and if he was being selected, he should have been given the captaincy role as well.Gill has enough time to adjust to the captaincy.Harbhajan described Rohit Sharma as a strong pillar of the Indian team in white-ball cricket. He said, "Rohit should have been given the opportunity to captain at least on this tour. If the selectors are preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, that is still a long way off. Shubman still has plenty of time to adjust to the captaincy role." Harbhajan also suggested that Gill could have waited six to eight months or even a year for this responsibility.Rohit will always lead, whether he is captain or not.Harbhajan expressed happiness for Shubman Gill and said that he is excited for this new opportunity, but at the same time, he is a little disappointed by Rohit Sharma's removal from the captaincy. He said, "Rohit is a wonderful player and there will be no change in that. He will continue to bat as he always has and provide leadership to the team despite not being the captain. He will continue to advise Shubman or any other player when needed."
