India opened their 2020 Women's T20 World Cup campaign with a 17-run victory over hosts Australia on Friday. Driven by Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 49 off 46 deliveries, India put up a total of 132/4. Poonam Yadav registered figures of 4-0-19-4 as Australia were dismissed for 115 in 19.5 overs. India will next face Bangladesh on Monday.

Poonam Yadav ended the match with outstanding figures of 4/19 as India started their campaign with a 17-run win over Australia. Shikha Pandey scalped three wickets while Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped one. Earlier, Deepti Sharma scored an unbeaten 49 to take India to 132 for 4 in the first match of the Women’s World Cup between IND W and AUS W.

This after Shafali Verma gave India a flying start as she hit Megan Schutt for four boundaries in an over. But Jesse Jonassen and Ellyse Perry struck quick blows to deflate a great start. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur failed to get off to a good start in the tournament. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma took India past the 100-run mark.
