India opened their 2020 Women's T20 World Cup campaign with a 17-run victory over hosts Australia on Friday. Driven by Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 49 off 46 deliveries, India put up a total of 132/4. Poonam Yadav registered figures of 4-0-19-4 as Australia were dismissed for 115 in 19.5 overs. Shikha Pandey scalped three wickets while Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped one. Earlier, Deepti Sharma scored an unbeaten 49 to take India to 132 for 4 in the first match of the Women’s World Cup between IND W and AUS W. This after Shafali Verma gave India a flying start as she hit Megan Schutt for four boundaries in an over. But Jesse Jonassen and Ellyse Perry struck quick blows to deflate a great start. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur failed to get off to a good start in the tournament. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma took India past the 100-run mark.
