Importance of donation in Makar Sankranti

Along with this, charity has special significance on the day of Makar Sankranti. It is said that donating on the occasion of Sankranti brings auspicious results.

Urad dal and rice should be donated on the day of Makar Sankranti. Along with this, donating sesame seeds, chidwa, gold, woolen clothes, blankets etc. also increases wealth-grains and happiness-prosperity.

  • On the day of Makar Sankranti wake up early in the morning and take a bath and wear clean clothes.

  • On the day of Makar Sankranti, make khichdi and sesame laddoos at home and then offer it to God.
  • After offering bhog, take the prasad yourself and distribute it to others as well.
  • On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, do donate food, sesame and blanket to the needy and poor.

Take measures on the day of Makar Sankranti

  • On the day of Makar Sankranti, getting up early in the morning in Brahma Muhurta, after taking bath etc., at sunrise, take pure water in a copper pot or glass, put kumkum and red flowers in it and offer Arghya to God. Then sit on the seat of Kush and chant Surya Gayatri Mantra as per your wish. The mantra is- 'Om Adityaya Vidmahe Divakaray Dhimahi Tanno Surya: Prachodayat'
  • Cow or calf should be donated on the day of Makar Sankranti. It is said that by doing this the position of the Sun in the horoscope gets strengthened.
  • It is believed that sesame, khichdi etc. should be donated on the day of Makar Sankranti. This will strengthen the position of the Sun.
  • On this day Lord Surya should be offered kheer made of jaggery and rice. After offering bhog, it should be eaten as prasad.
  • Lord Sun should be duly worshiped on the day of Makar Sankranti. Along with this, Aditya Hridaya Stotra should also be recited on this day. This gives the grace of Sun God.
  • On the day of Makar Sankranti, tie wheat and jaggery in a red colored cloth and donate it to a needy person. May all your wishes come true with this.
