IPL 2021 / MS Dhoni becomes first captain to lead 300 matches in T20 format

IPL 2021 | Three-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made a special name for himself against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final match of IPL 2021. This match is Dhoni's 300th T20 match as captain and he has become the first captain in the world to do so. Dhoni has played 300 matches as captain, out of which he has won 176 matches and lost 118 matches. Two matches have been tied, while the results of three matches have not been declared. The winning percentage under Dhoni's captaincy is 59.79.

After Dhoni, the second in this list is Darren Sammy of West Indies, who has captained in 208 T20 matches. Indian captain Virat Kohli is at number three, who has captained in 185 T20 matches. There are only five such players in the world who have captained more than 150 T20 matches. Apart from Dhoni, Sammy and Virat, the names of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma are registered in this list. Gambhir has captained 170 and Rohit has captained in 153 T20 matches. Rohit Sharma has the best winning percentage after captaining in more than 150 matches. Rohit's winning percentage as captain is 62.74.

Dhoni has played 220 matches in IPL so far, out of which Chennai has won three times. This time the team has made it to the final match for the ninth time by defeating Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier. Apart from the IPL, Dhoni has also captained the Indian National Team in 72 T20 matches. Under his captaincy, Team India became the T20 World Champion for the first time in the year 2007. Then the team won the title by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.
