Delhi: After earning Rs 48,390 crore for the media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next five years, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has claimed that the window (time) of this second most expensive league in the world will be extended and Along with this, the number of its matches will also be increased. Shah confirmed that the BCCI is in constant touch with the ICC and other countries to extend the IPL window. He also said that IPL has now become a marquee tournament in the cricket calendar and the number of matches in the league will be increased in future.

During a conversation with Cricbuzz, Shah said, “We are in talks with our fellow member boards and the ICC about a bigger window for the IPL. The IPL is a major tournament in the annual cricket calendar, and it is now only behind the NFL. The quality of cricket that you see in IPL is world class with senior international players coming in and playing with and against Indian players.

He said, 'Not only cricketers but some legends are also working as coaches in IPL now. It is a great platform and benefits everyone as the experience here is invaluable. As we progress, the number of matches will increase. 10 teams played in IPL 2022 season and 74 matches were played in it. For some time now it is expected that 84 or 94 matches will be played in each season in IPL.
