KKR vs PBKS: Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in a thrilling match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kolkata needed 26 runs in the last 2 overs, Andre Russell scored 20 runs in the 19th over to bring the team closer to victory. Kolkata needed 2 runs on the last ball of the 20th over, Rinku Singh gave the team victory by hitting it for a four.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, Punjab scored 179 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Kolkata achieved the target for 5 wickets.

Gurbaj's wicket lost in powerplay

Chasing the target of 180 runs, Kolkata got off to a brisk start by Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. But in the fifth over, Nathan Ellis made Gurbaj LBW. He scored 15 runs as the team scored 52 runs for the loss of one wicket after the end of 6 overs.

Fifth: On the fourth ball of the 15th over, Nitish Rana got Shikhar Dhawan caught by Vaibhav Arora.

Sixth: Rishi Dhawan was bowled by Varun Chakraborty on the 5th ball of the 17th over.

Seventh: On the second ball of the 18th over, Suyyash Sharma got Sam Karan caught by Gurbaj.

Fifty partnership in Dhawan-Jitesh

Only Shikhar Dhawan and Jitesh Sharma from Punjab could make a fifty partnership. Both shared a 53-run partnership off 42 balls, Jitesh was dismissed after scoring 21 runs. Dhawan added 26 runs in this partnership. Apart from these two, Shah Rukh Khan and Harpreet Brar made a not out partnership of 40 runs in 16 balls for the 8th wicket.

Dhawan scores 50th half-century, comes on par with Kohli

Dhawan has completed his 50th career half-century. He scored a half century off 41 balls. Dhawan's second fifty in the current season. He has come on par with former Indian captain Virat Kohli in terms of scoring the most fifties in the league. Virat Kohli has also scored his 50th half-century a few days ago.

Initial setbacks for Punjab

After winning the toss, Punjab came out to bat first and lost 3 wickets in the powerplay itself. The team scored 58 runs in 6 overs. Opener Prabhasimran 12, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 0 and Liam Livingstone were dismissed after scoring 15 runs. Harshit Rana got two and Varun Chakraborty got one wicket.

Rajapaksa returns to Punjab, no change in Kolkata

Bhanuka Rajapakse has returned in place of Matthew Short in the team, while Kolkata landed without change.
