Sheikh Hasina News: Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has recently been sentenced in an important legal case. According to local media, she has been sentenced to six months in jail in a case of contempt of court. The verdict was pronounced on Wednesday by a three-member bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ghulam Murtuza Majumdar. The bench also included Justice Mohammad Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Mohammad Mohitul Haque Inam Chowdhury.

Case details

Apart from Sheikh Hasina, another accused in the case, Shakeel Akand Bulbul alias Mohammad Shakeel Alam of Gobindganj, Gaibandha, has also been sentenced to two months. This sentence is one of the many cases going on against Sheikh Hasina after the coup in Bangladesh. There are serious allegations against her ranging from corruption to murder, due to which her opponents are demanding her extradition from India and death penalty.

Legal action is also going on against Sheikh Hasina in many other cases in Bangladesh. On Tuesday, the International Crimes Tribunal began hearings to frame charges against Sheikh Hasina and three others in a case related to crimes against humanity during the July uprising.
