AUS vs SA: South Africa's batsmen managed to draw the match against Australia on the last day of the third and final Test of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Although Australia's impressive bowling attack failed to win the rain-affected match, victories in Brisbane and Melbourne meant that the Pat Cummins-led side were able to take a 2–0 series lead. At the same time, strengthened his position to go to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Resuming play on the fifth day at 149/6, Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer found their feet in the first hour until Travis Head dismissed them. Harmer then batted well with Keshav Maharaj for an 85-run partnership.

With the game looking likely to result in a draw, Josh Hazlewood dismissed both Harmer and Maharaj. Nathan Lyon finally ended the Proteas' innings by dismissing Kagiso Rabada, allowing Australia to follow-on South Africa.

South African captain Dean Elgar was made his victim by Pat Cummins. In the tour, Elgar could score only 56 runs at an average of 9.33. Australia had some hope of victory when Steve Smith caught Heinrich Klaasen at first slip, but South Africa were given another chance after an umpire review as the ball hit the ground.

Eventually, Hazlewood took the wicket of Klaasen, followed by Sarel Ervi and Temba Bavuma to secure a draw for South Africa. Australia will now prepare for a big four-match tour of India starting on February 9. After this series, Australia will have to do better in their upcoming series against India away from home to make it to the World Test Championship final.

After the Sydney Test, their mark-percentage in the WTC table has come down to 75.56 per cent. India's chances of making it to their second consecutive final have increased as Rohit Sharma's men continue to be second on the table with 58.93 points-percentage, while Sri Lanka are also third with 53.33 per cent.

Like Australia, South Africa also lost valuable percentage points while the Proteas (48.72 per cent) finished fourth and their finals hopes hinge on their upcoming series against the West Indies at home in March. South Africa's chances will also depend on other teams, with a win in both those Tests against the Caribbean side necessary and other results being the only hope for Dean Elgar's men after a disappointing tour of Australia.
