Special Intensive Revision / UP BJP's Mega Drive: Aims to Add 4 Crore New Voters After SIR Draft List Release

Following the release of the SIR draft list in UP, BJP has become active, aiming to add 4 crore new voters within a month. CM Yogi Adityanath held a meeting, directing ministers and MLAs to increase voter count by at least one lakh per assembly constituency.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh has launched into an active mode following the release of the Special Integrated Revision (SIR) draft list, while the party has set an ambitious target of adding 4 crore new voters within a month, a strategic move after the draft list revealed a significant number of deletions from the electoral rolls. This intensive campaign is designed to strengthen the party's grassroots presence. And ensure an updated and accurate voter list across the state.

Draft List Reveals Significant Deletions

The SIR draft list indicated that approximately 2. 89 crore voters' names have been removed from the electoral rolls across Uttar Pradesh. This substantial reduction has prompted the BJP to immediately initiate a drive to enroll new voters and re-register those who might have been inadvertently excluded. The party's objective isn't only to compensate for the deleted names but also to expand its voter base Importantly by targeting individuals who are eligible but not yet registered, while the goal of adding 4 crore new voters in just one month underscores the scale and urgency of this organizational effort.

CM Yogi Adityanath's Strategic Meeting

To galvanize this massive voter enrollment drive, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a crucial virtual meeting with all government ministers, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), party office-bearers, and district presidents. During this meeting, CM Yogi issued clear directives, emphasizing the need to increase the voter count by at least one lakh in each assembly constituency within the stipulated one-month period. Achieving this target across all constituencies would collectively result in the addition of approximately four crore new voters statewide. The Chief Minister stressed that this initiative isn't merely about numbers but about ensuring that every eligible citizen can exercise their democratic right to vote.

Verification of Deceased Voters and Discrepancies

The meeting also highlighted that, according to the new draft list, 46. 23 lakh voters in UP have been marked as deceased. CM Yogi instructed party ministers, MLAs, leaders, and workers to re-verify all these names meticulously, while the aim is to ensure that there are no errors in this list and that no living person has been mistakenly categorized as deceased. This verification process is critical for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the voter list. Plus, all ministers were asked to be present at booth levels to oversee the ground-level implementation of the campaign, reflecting the high priority the party places on this initiative.

Lucknow Faces Highest Voter Cuts

Among all districts in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow has experienced the highest percentage of voter cuts, with approximately 30% of votes removed from its lists. This translates to over 12 lakh deleted votes in the state capital. Lucknow comprises nine assembly constituencies, and in all of them, photocopies of the draft voter list have been distributed. BJP workers and officials are actively engaged in door-to-door campaigns, searching for voters whose names have been removed or who are yet to be included in the electoral roll. This localized effort demonstrates the intensive nature of the campaign at the grassroots level.

Addressing Voter Registration Issues on the Ground

Anand Dwivedi, BJP's Lucknow District President, explained some of the common issues being addressed, while many residents living in Lucknow have their names registered in their native villages, and party workers are educating them on how to transfer their registration to Lucknow. On top of that, a significant number of people failed to submit the necessary forms due to negligence, leading to the deletion of their names, while for all such individuals, Form 6 is being facilitated, which is used for new voter registration or updating existing details. This proactive approach aims to rectify past oversights and ensure comprehensive inclusion.

Councillors Lead Door-to-Door Campaigns

In the Lucknow Cantt assembly constituency, local councillors (Pardashad) are leading teams that are going door-to-door to enroll new voters. These teams are equipped with copies of the draft voter list, which they use to identify missing voters and assist them in the registration process. This ground-level dedication and hard work by party workers are crucial for achieving the BJP's ambitious target of adding 4 crore new voters. The campaign not only focuses on enrolling new voters but also on ensuring that the electoral roll is accurate and up-to-date, thereby fostering a solid democratic process.
