Vladimir Putin: The night of May 7 gave rise to two major geopolitical developments—one in Russia and the other on the India-Pakistan border. During a recent phone conversation with former US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin shared a shocking incident. Putin told Trump that it was the same night when he was truly terrified for a few moments for the first time in the last three years.Putin's concern and drone attacksAccording to the TASS news agency, Ukraine carried out a massive drone attack on the Russian capital Moscow on the night of May 7. About 564 drones entered Russian airspace. According to Putin, Ukraine's aim was to disrupt the May 9 Victory Parade to be held in Moscow, in which many international leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping were the chief guests.President Putin said,"I was afraid that if China or other countries would hesitate to come because of this attack, it would be a serious blow to Russia's international credibility."However, Russia showed promptness and foiled the attack and the Victory Parade was held as per the scheduled program.India's strategic strike on the same nightOn the other hand, on the night of May 7, India carried out a well-planned and decisive strike on terrorist bases in Pakistan. In fact, on April 22, terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba-backed 'The Resident Fronts' killed 26 innocent civilians in the Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir. After this, India decided to retaliate. On the night of May 7, India targeted 9 major bases of Lashkar, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan-occupied areas. More than 100 terrorists were killed in this strike. After this military action, tension between the two countries reached its peak and the fear of Indo-Pak conflict once again increased in the international community.Similarities and coincidencesThe surprising thing in this entire episode is that the same date shared by Putin with Trump, 7 May, turned out to be a decisive night for India as well. While Russia was dealing with the drone attack on its capital, India was making its resolve against terrorism clear to the world. Both the incidents show that the night of 7 May was not just a test of geography but of future diplomacy, strategic balance and global leadership.Ceasefire and the way forwardHowever, after the tense situation, India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire on 11 May. This was a sign of global pressure and limited confrontation policy of both the countries.Meanwhile, Putin also successfully conducted the parade in Moscow to show that Russia is not going to bow down to pressure.
