Phonchanok Srisunaklua, who purported to be a teacher in the video, could face up to five years in prison for keeping protected wildlife carcasses. The woman posted the video on her Facebook page, Kin Saab Nua Nua. This page has 3,92,000 followers. In the video, Srisunaclua can be seen spreading the wings of the Asian yellow bats before separating it to eat. He reportedly bought the bats at a market near the Laos border in northern Thailand.

The woman described the bats being boiled in a bowl of spicy soup as "delicious". He reportedly said that he had consumed bats for the first time. He told that his nails smelled like a mouse and his skin was sticky. She told people that she was not trying to spread any coronavirus, as other people living in her area had also eaten bats.

However, many viewers called the video disturbing and criticized it for risking the spread of new diseases. One user said, "If you are going to die, die alone. No one will blame you. But if you start a pandemic you will suffer a lot."

After the clip went viral, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) warned the public not to eat bats due to health concerns. Dr. Chakkarat Pittayavong, Director of Epidemiology Division at DDC said that humans can easily transmit diseases from bats. Its feces can cause respiratory infection.
