The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections, sparking intense political activity across the state. The newly released list features a total of 40 candidates, including 4 women. The major highlight of this candidate announcement is that the party's biggest face and current Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, will contest the elections from his home turf, the Dhuri assembly constituency in Sangrur, and seek a mandate from the same seat.

This crucial list was finalized following a high-level meeting of the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) held at the Delhi residence of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. After detailed deliberations on the prospective candidates, the final stamp of approval was given by the leadership. Following the meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab in-charge Manish सिसोदिया (Manish Sisodia) jointly addressed a press conference in New Delhi to officially announce the names of the candidates, signaling the formal launch of AAP's campaign for the high-stakes state assembly elections.

A notable feature of this first list is that the Aam Aadmi Party has reposed faith in 37 sitting MLAs out of the 40 announced candidates, repeating them for the upcoming electoral battle. By retaining the vast majority of its existing legislators, the party aims to use their local connect and governance experience. The remaining 3 seats in the list comprise constituencies where the Aam Aadmi Party had faced defeat during the previous assembly elections held in the year 2022. The party has strategically fielded strong candidates on these seats to overturn the previous outcomes.

Delving into the political background of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he's the sitting MLA from the Dhuri assembly constituency located in the Sangrur district of Punjab. Mann registered a resounding victory from the Dhuri seat during the 2022 assembly elections, defeating his closest rival, Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy, by a massive margin of 58,206 votes. He had secured a total of 82,592 votes in that electoral contest. Bhagwant Mann currently serves as the Chief Minister of Punjab and stands as the foremost face of the Aam Aadmi Party in the state, while Plus, he has also served twice as a Member of Parliament from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has already categorically announced that the party will contest the upcoming Punjab assembly elections under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann. On the personal front, Mann belongs to a Jat Sikh family.

The first list released by the Aam Aadmi Party includes several prominent names and key assembly segments. The party has awarded a ticket to Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana West. In addition, Dr, while inderbir Singh Nijjar has been named as the candidate from the Amritsar South assembly seat, while Harमीत Singh Sandhu has been fielded from the Tarn Taran constituency. Brahm Shankar Sharma Jimpa has received the ticket from the Hoshiarpur assembly segment, and Lakhbir Singh Rai has been trusted by the party from the Fatehgarh Sahib seat, while from the Moga assembly constituency, the party has officially nominated Amandeep Kaur Arora.

Providing details regarding the Moga candidate, the party stated that Amandeep Kaur Arora is the sitting woman MLA from the Moga region and is a doctor by profession, while in the 2022 assembly elections, she had defeated Malvika Sood, the sister of renowned actor Sonu Sood and the Congress candidate, by a margin of 20,915 votes on the Moga seat. By renominating her, the party has once again shown confidence in its sitting legislator from the area.

Another significant aspect that has caught political attention following the release of this first list is that it doesn't feature the name of any current cabinet minister from the Punjab government. While announcing all 40 candidates, CM Bhagwant Mann and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia held a press conference in the national capital to make the formal declaration. Political analysts believe that the Aam Aadmi Party has carefully calibrated its strategy, placing its primary focus on constituencies where the party holds strong ground or had narrowly missed victory last time. With the release of this inaugural candidate list, political momentum in Punjab has accelerated Notably, prompting rival political outfits to fine-tune their own electoral strategies ahead of the polls.
