Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the Special Investment Region (SIR) issue. For several days, Rahul Gandhi has been targeting the government over SIR, and now Amit Shah has responded to these allegations with a direct question. Shah asked whether the Congress party's defeat in Gujarat was due to the SIR issue. He pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Gujarat local body elections and emphasized that the Congress has been facing defeat in the state for the last 41 years. Shah suggested that instead of making allegations, Rahul Gandhi should engage in serious introspection.
Amit Shah Questions Congress's 41-Year Losing Streak
During his address, Amit Shah highlighted the long-standing political struggle of the Congress party in Gujarat. He remarked that in a major state where the Congress once held power, they've failed to win a single election in 41 years. According to Shah, this is a matter that requires deep self-reflection by the Congress leadership. He criticized the party's inability to connect with the voters in a region they once dominated. The Home Minister's remarks come at a time when the political atmosphere is charged with allegations and counter-allegations regarding development projects and administrative decisions.
Analysis of Recent By-Election Results
Amit Shah also provided a detailed breakdown of the recent by-elections held in three states: West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. He informed the public that the Congress party failed to win even a single seat in these elections. Highlighting specific victories, Shah mentioned the Nagaon seat, where the BJP candidate won by a massive margin of 1,42,000 votes, successfully snatching the seat away from the Congress party. In Nandigram, the BJP candidate secured 76% of the total votes, establishing a heavy lead of 1,22,000 votes. Also, in West Bengal's Rejinagar, the BJP won by more than 75,000 votes, taking the seat from the Trinamool Congress. In Puducherry, the NDA candidate from the ally party AINRC won by 8,482 votes, while the Congress managed to secure only 22% of the votes. Based on these results, Shah took a dig at Rahul Gandhi, telling him to prepare for a fourth consecutive defeat in the 2029 elections.
Rahul Gandhi's Tea Party and Attack on CEC
Prior to Amit Shah's remarks, Rahul Gandhi had hosted a tea party at his residence for the leaders of the INDIA alliance. The gathering saw the presence of prominent figures including Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, along with several other alliance leaders. Following the tea party, Rahul Gandhi addressed the media and once again targeted Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Gandhi alleged that there has been a theft of votes and asserted that everyone involved in this process would be punished, while he declared that his movement would continue until Gyanesh Kumar resigns and that he wouldn't stop until his ultimate goal is achieved. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the entire opposition stands united in this struggle against the CEC, accusing the current system of destroying the electoral process and describing it as the murder of democracy.
