Bajaj Auto has officially announced the launch of the updated Pulsar NS400Z in the Indian market, with a price tag of 1,90,015 INR (ex-showroom, Delhi). This significant update comes just a week after the new TFT console was spotted at various dealerships across the country, creating a buzz among motorcycle enthusiasts. The primary focus of this refresh is the enhancement of the instrument cluster and the introduction of advanced connected features, bringing the flagship Pulsar model in line with the rest of the brand's recently updated motorcycle lineup for the current year.
Advanced Features and 5-Inch TFT Display
The most notable change in the new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is the replacement of the previous bonded-glass color LCD with a more sophisticated and modern 5-inch TFT display. This new interface is designed to provide riders with a wealth of information and control at their fingertips. Key features integrated into the display include Google Maps mirroring for turn-by-turn navigation, which helps riders navigate through city traffic and highways with ease. Also, the console offers music control, document storage for digital copies of essential papers, and a dedicated lap timer for those interested in tracking their performance on the track. Through this new interface, riders can easily toggle between four distinct riding modes and manage the traction control system directly, allowing for a more personalized riding experience.
Connectivity has been a major focus for Bajaj in this update. The motorcycle now features smooth Bluetooth connectivity, allowing riders to pair their smartphones for various functions such as call alerts and navigation updates. On top of that, a USB Type-C charging port has been added to ensure that mobile devices remain powered during long rides. Another innovative safety feature introduced is the Panic Brake Alert system. This system is designed to automatically activate the hazard lights during sudden or heavy braking, providing a visual warning to vehicles following behind and reducing the risk of rear-end collisions in emergency situations.
Engine Performance and Technical Specifications
While the technology and features have seen a major overhaul, the core mechanical components of the Pulsar NS400Z remain solid and unchanged. The motorcycle continues to be powered by a 349 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that has proven its reliability. This powerplant is capable of generating 40 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 33 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a smooth 6-speed gearbox, ensuring a dynamic and responsive riding experience across various terrains and speeds.
The bike retains several high-end features that were already part of its impressive package. These include an electronic throttle body for precise throttle response, four riding modes to suit different road conditions, and a traction control system for added safety on slippery surfaces. The suspension duties are handled by 43 mm USD (Upside Down) front forks, which provide better handling and stability. The braking system features dual-channel ABS for superior stopping power and safety. The motorcycle also comes equipped with radial tires, providing excellent grip and stability during cornering and high-speed runs.
Market Positioning and Competition
The updated Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is positioned as a premium offering in the competitive 300-400cc naked bike segment. With a price tag of 1,90,015 INR, it sees a slight increase over the previous model, reflecting the value added by the new TFT display and connected technology. This strategic update ensures that the Pulsar NS400Z remains a strong competitor against rivals like the KTM 390 Duke. Bajaj has been gradually rolling out this 5-inch TFT display across its Pulsar family throughout the year, starting with the N160 SS, followed by the Pulsar 125 and 150, and now finally reaching the flagship NS400Z, completing the modernization of the lineup.
