In a significant development concerning national security and the integrity of government welfare systems, the police in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, have initiated legal action against 27 individuals. These persons are accused of holding dual citizenship and identification documents from both India and Nepal. The case was registered in the Jarwa police station area, which is located near the international border. According to police officials, these individuals allegedly exploited their fraudulent Indian identities to avail themselves of various government schemes intended for Indian citizens.
Investigation Initiated on District Magistrate's Orders
The crackdown follows a formal complaint and directive from the District Magistrate of Balrampur, while superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Kumar stated that the matter was thoroughly investigated after receiving a letter from the DM's office. The investigation report confirmed the irregularities, leading to the registration of the case. The authorities took this step after finding substantial evidence that these individuals were maintaining identities in two different nations simultaneously, which is a violation of legal norms and citizenship regulations.
Nepalese Citizens Availing Indian Benefits
The investigation revealed that several residents from the Koilabas area in the Dang district of Nepal had managed to establish residency records in Balrampur. Specifically, they claimed to be residents of areas such as Balapur, Tulsipur, and Sheetalapur Rizwan Gali. By doing so, they successfully obtained critical Indian identification documents, including Aadhaar cards and Voter Identity cards. These documents were then used as a gateway to access benefits under various Indian government welfare programs, which are strictly reserved for legitimate residents and citizens of India.
Presence in Dual Voter Lists
SP Vikas Kumar further elaborated on the findings, noting that the names of the 27 accused individuals were found on the voter lists of both India and Nepal. This dual registration served as a primary piece of evidence against them. During the detailed probe, specific discrepancies came to light. For instance, the name of Abdul Rehman, son of Kallu, was found on the records for Balapur village in Anwardih, yet he doesn't actually reside there. In another startling revelation, the name of Abdul Aziz Siddiqui was found in several official records despite the fact that he passed away several months ago. Such instances have added a layer of gravity to the case, suggesting a deep-seated misuse of the documentation system.
Misuse of Indian Documents and Legal Action
The police official emphasized that the preliminary investigation has clearly established the dual presence of these names in the electoral rolls of both countries. The misuse of Indian documents to secure government benefits is a serious offense involving the concealment of true identity and the provision of false information to government departments. The Jarwa police have registered the case under relevant sections of the law and have commenced an extensive inquiry, while currently, all documents are being verified, and records are being cross-referenced with various government departments to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
