The operations targeted Amit Ranu, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) led by Chirag Paswan, and Giridhari Yadav, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United). Raids on LJP-R MLA Amit Ranu and Weapon Recovery
The police action against MLA Amit Ranu, who represents the Belsand constituency, stems from a case involving the demolition of constructions and houses belonging to more than 50 people in the Jhapaha area of Ahiyapur, Muzaffarpur. As part of the ongoing probe, law enforcement agencies conducted thorough searches at the MLA's residence located in Bairiya and his office-cum-residence in Belsand. The scale of the operation reflects the seriousness of the allegations regarding the illegal demolition of property.
During the course of these searches, the police made significant recoveries. According to official reports, an automatic pistol, 2 magazines, and 9 cartridges were seized from the premises. MP Giridhari Yadav has raised several questions regarding the police's conduct. He alleged that the raids were conducted without a valid search warrant and described the action as an attempt to tarnish his reputation. " He emphasized that the late-night arrival of the police at his various residences was uncalled for and lacked procedural transparency, especially given his standing as a public representative.
Police Clarification and the Case of Laldhari Yadav
In response to the allegations made by the MP, the police department has provided a clarification regarding the objective of the operation. The authorities stated that the action wasn't intended to target the Member of Parliament personally. Instead, the primary goal was the apprehension of an accused individual named Laldhari Yadav. Laldhari Yadav, who is the younger brother of MP Giridhari Yadav, is wanted in connection with a case involving illegal soil mining near the Odhni Dam.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amitesh Kumar addressed the concerns raised by the MP, stating that all allegations of procedural misconduct are baseless. The SP clarified that the police team didn't go to the locations specifically for a raid against the MP but were in pursuit of the criminal suspect, Laldhari Yadav. The police maintained that the entire operation was conducted in accordance with established legal rules and regulations, focusing solely on the arrest of the accused in the mining case.
