The Indian cricket team is currently occupied with international assignments, but behind the scenes, preparations for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) are in full swing. Various franchises are working tirelessly to strengthen their squads and management structures. Delhi Capitals appears to be leading this race for IPL 2027, having already secured Rishabh Pant's position in the camp and now moving toward a complete overhaul of their coaching department. The franchise is set to welcome back Sourav Ganguly in a significant role, while legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is also expected to join the ranks.

Management Shift and Coaching Overhaul

The governance of the Delhi Capitals franchise follows a unique pattern where the responsibility of managing operations rotates between its co-owners every two years. For the previous two seasons, the GMR Group was at the helm of affairs. During their tenure, they appointed Hemang Badani as the head coach and made several other appointments within the support staff. As the cycle shifts for the next two seasons, the Jindal Group has taken over the management duties, leading to a fresh wave of changes in the coaching setup to align with their vision for the team's future.

Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh to Take Charge

As part of this management transition, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is making a comeback to Delhi Capitals. According to a report by Sportstar, Ganguly will take on the role of Head Coach this time, replacing Hemang Badani. Ganguly is no stranger to the franchise, having previously served as the Director of Cricket and Mentor. However, he wasn't part of the setup during the last 2 seasons. Joining him as the Assistant Coach will be the World Cup-winning legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. This appointment marks Yuvraj Singh's first foray into a coaching role within the IPL, adding significant star power and experience to the dugout.

New Appointments in Bowling Support Staff

The restructuring extends to the bowling department with two major appointments, while the report indicates that Sri Lankan fast-bowling great Chaminda Vaas will join as the team's fast bowling coach. Vaas brings some IPL experience to the table, having played in the first 3 seasons of the league as part of the Deccan Chargers. During his playing days in the IPL, he appeared in 13 matches and claimed 18 wickets. Also, former Indian spinner Amit Mishra, who has represented Delhi in both the IPL and domestic cricket, is set to become the spin bowling coach. These appointments signify a move toward bringing in seasoned veterans to guide the next generation of bowlers.

The Power of Seven Hat-tricks

While Delhi Capitals has not yet made an official announcement regarding these appointments, the proposed coaching staff stands out for a remarkable statistical feat, while the group is filled with specialists who have achieved hat-tricks in their careers. Excluding Sourav Ganguly, the other three coaches have collectively taken 7 hat-tricks. Chaminda Vaas has recorded 2 hat-tricks in One Day Internationals. Amit Mishra holds the prestigious record for the most hat-tricks in IPL history, having achieved the feat 3 times. Also, Yuvraj Singh has also claimed 2 hat-tricks during his IPL career. This concentration of high-performance experience is expected to provide a unique edge to the Delhi Capitals as they prepare for the upcoming seasons.
