In a significant escalation of tensions in the national capital, the Delhi Police on Monday resorted to a lathi charge against protesters belonging to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), while the incident occurred when the party workers and supporters attempted to break through security cordons and march from Jantar Mantar towards the Parliament House. Despite repeated warnings and the presence of heavy security, the protesters continued their advance, prompting the security forces to take action to maintain law and order in the sensitive zone.
Police Intervention and Use of Force
The situation turned volatile when the CJP protesters, who had gathered in large numbers at Jantar Mantar, began moving towards the Parliament. The Delhi Police had already established multiple layers of barricading to prevent any unauthorized movement towards the legislative building. However, as the crowd surged forward and tried to bypass the restrictions, the police and personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) were forced to use their batons. The lathi charge was initiated to disperse the crowd and push the protesters back towards the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Security Measures Amidst Monsoon Session
The march by the Cockroach Janta Party coincided with the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, while given the high-profile nature of the session and the potential for disruption, the Delhi Police had already intensified security arrangements across the capital. The authorities had made it clear that no marches towards the Parliament would be permitted. The deployment of RPF personnel alongside the Delhi Police highlighted the seriousness with which the administration viewed the protest march, while the security forces were tasked with ensuring that the proceedings of the Parliament remained unaffected by the demonstrations occurring nearby.
Presence of Political Leaders and Public Figures
The protest saw the participation of several prominent political figures and activists from various parties, lending significant weight to the CJP's demonstration. Among those present were senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Their presence indicated a broader political alignment against the current administrative measures. On top of that, Chandra Shekhar, the Chief of the Azad Samaj Party and the Member of Parliament from Nagina, Uttar Pradesh, was also seen at the forefront of the protest, expressing his solidarity with the CJP workers.

Beyond the political spectrum, the protest also attracted attention due to the presence of well-known figures from the film industry and civil society. Renowned actor Prakash Raj joined the march, adding a layer of celebrity influence to the cause, while On top of that, Gitanjali, the wife of noted environmentalist and activist Sonam Wangchuk, was also present among the protesters. The diverse group of participants highlighted the varied support base for the Cockroach Janta Party's march, even as the police maintained that the attempt to reach the Parliament was a violation of the established security protocols in the capital city.
