The political atmosphere in Pakistan has reached a fever pitch following a shocking claim made by senior Pakistani journalist Wajahat S. Khan regarding the health and status of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan. The journalist alleged that Imran Khan had passed away while in custody, citing high-level sources within the Pakistani government and the military establishment. This claim has triggered a wave of panic and restlessness across the country, prompting an immediate and sharp reaction from the PTI leadership.
PTI Expresses Deep Concern Over Disturbing Reports
In response to the claims circulating on social media and reported by Wajahat S. Khan, the Central Media Department of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued a formal statement on Tuesday via the social media platform X. The party stated that the continuous flow of disturbing reports regarding the health of Imran Khan has created a state of deep anxiety and unease among the general public. The party emphasized that the uncertainty surrounding their leader's well-being is unacceptable and has called for immediate clarity from the authorities.
Demands for Immediate Access and Medical Transparency
The PTI statement underscored that Imran Khan isn't merely an ordinary political worker but a democratically elected and immensely popular leader representing millions of Pakistanis. The party asserted that it's the fundamental responsibility of the government to take the public into confidence regarding his health. To address the growing concerns, PTI has demanded that the government immediately arrange for Imran Khan to meet with his family members, his personal team of doctors, his legal counsel, and responsible political leaders from the party.
Plus, the party has insisted that a comprehensive medical examination and any necessary treatment must be conducted under the direct supervision of his personal doctors. PTI has called for this process to be carried out in the presence of his family members to ensure full transparency, stating that the current state of uncertainty can't be allowed to persist any longer as it directly affects the sentiments of millions of supporters.
Current Legal Status and Imprisonment in Adiala Jail
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023. He's currently being held at the Adiala Jail, where he's serving a sentence related to a 190 million pound corruption case. In addition to this, the former Prime Minister is facing multiple legal challenges, including cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the widespread protests that occurred on May 9, 2023. The PTI maintains that the safety and health of their leader are of paramount importance, especially given the high-profile nature of his detention and the gravity of the rumors currently circulating.
