India has officially and categorically rejected the baseless allegations made by Pakistan regarding the recent terrorist attack in Karachi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a stern response, clarifying that instead of pointing fingers at others, Pakistan should focus on dismantling the terrorist infrastructure that continues to thrive on its own soil. The attack, which targeted the Sindh Rangers compound, was carried out by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a group associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), highlighting the severe internal security challenges currently facing Pakistan.
India Rejects Baseless Claims
On Sunday, India dismissed the accusations from Islamabad that attempted to link New Delhi to the assault on the Sindh Rangers compound in Karachi. India described these allegations as completely unfounded and urged Pakistan to take credible action against the terror networks operating within its borders. Responding to media queries about Pakistani reports blaming India for the incident, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that New Delhi rejects these claims in their entirety.
Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that Pakistan needs to stop its habit of blaming others for its domestic issues. He stated, "We've seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. " He further suggested that it would be better for Pakistan to look inward and take decisive steps against the terror infrastructure in its territory, rather than relying on terrorism as a matter of state policy.
Details of the Karachi Terror Attack
The Indian response follows a day after heavily armed terrorists launched a sophisticated attack on the Sindh Rangers compound in Karachi, leading to a fierce gunbattle. According to Pakistani officials, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when militants targeted the Bhittai Wing Headquarters of the Sindh Rangers located in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi. The attackers reportedly rammed a vehicle through the main gate and entered the premises while throwing grenades, which resulted in multiple explosions.
The Rangers personnel retaliated immediately, leading to a prolonged exchange of fire. As the situation escalated, commandos from the Special Security Unit (SSU) and the Anti-Terrorist Force joined the operation, which lasted for approximately 90 minutes. By the end of the operation, Pakistani security forces confirmed that 6 terrorists were killed, while 1 injured attacker was captured alive. However, the attack claimed the lives of 4 paramilitary Rangers personnel.
Responsibility and Security Context
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a militant faction linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This group has a history of targeting security forces and government institutions across Pakistan. This incident marks the first major terrorist event in Karachi since October 2024, when a suicide bombing near the Karachi airport killed 2 Chinese engineers. It's also considered the largest attack in the city by TTP-linked militants since the 2023 assault on the Karachi Police Office.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed senior police officials to submit a detailed report on the security breach, while this attack comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Pakistan and renewed tensions with Afghanistan.
