A devastating incident has been reported from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, where two young siblings lost their lives after drowning in a pit filled with rainwater. The tragedy took place just days before the festival of Rakshabandhan, casting a pall of gloom over the family and the local community, while the victims have been identified as 11 year old Alia and her younger brother, 7 year old Mohammad Ayan. The incident occurred in the Dariyawali Gali located at Sadwa Mod under the jurisdiction of the Jaisinghpura Khor police station area in Jaipur on Thursday.
Sequence of the Tragic Accident
According to the details provided by the local authorities and witnesses, the two children, Alia and Mohammad Ayan, had stepped out of their home to play in the afternoon. While playing, they reached a nearby construction site where a deep pit had been excavated for the foundation of a new house. The police investigation revealed that the pit had been dug using a JCB machine on Wednesday. 5 feet deep, had become completely filled with rainwater. It's believed that while playing near the edge of the pit, both children accidentally slipped and fell into the deep water. Since the pit was filled to a significant depth, the children were unable to pull themselves out and tragically drowned.
Discovery by the Father
The incident came to light when a passerby noticed something unusual in the water and raised an alarm. A large crowd of local residents soon gathered at the spot. Around 2 pm, the children's father, Liyakat Hussain, who works as a laborer, was on his way to work when he noticed the commotion and the gathering of people near the construction site. Upon closer inspection, he was horrified to see his children's slippers floating on the surface of the water in the pit. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Liyakat Hussain, with the help of some neighbors, immediately jumped into the water and pulled out the bodies of both Alia and Mohammad Ayan.
Medical Efforts and Post-Mortem
As soon as the children were recovered from the pit, the family members and neighbors rushed to the spot, while in a desperate attempt to save their lives, the family tried to administer CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) to the children. They were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment, while however, upon arrival, the doctors examined the children and declared both of them dead. The bodies were then shifted to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur for a post-mortem examination. Following the completion of the legal formalities and the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the grieving family members for the final rites.
Family Background and Allegations of Negligence
The victim's family originally hails from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, while liyakat Hussain had moved to Jaipur to earn a living and works as a daily wage laborer to support his family. The sudden loss of both his children has left the family in a state of absolute shock and inconsolable grief. The father has raised serious allegations regarding the safety of the construction site. He stated that the pit dug for the house foundation was repeatedly getting filled with water due to the rains, yet no effective measures were taken by the plot owner or the contractors to secure the area or drain the water. He pointed out that the lack of safety barriers or warnings led to this fatal accident. The Jaisinghpura Khor police have registered a case and are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter to determine the responsibility for this negligence.
