In a significant development that marks a major victory for the agitating students in Jharkhand, the Hemant Soren-led state government has officially decided to cancel all examinations conducted by TDPL, while this decision includes the high-profile JSSC-CGL examinations, which had been at the center of a massive controversy regarding alleged irregularities and paper leaks. The announcement came after a period of intense pressure from the student community, who had been protesting for several weeks to demand justice and transparency in the recruitment process.

Emergency Cabinet Meeting and Key Decisions

The decision was finalized following an emergency meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the Jharkhand Mantralaya. The meeting was attended by various cabinet ministers to address the grievances of students who had been staging a sit-in protest at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi for the past 24 days. The students had raised serious concerns regarding alleged discrepancies in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. Addressing the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that the government has taken the firm step of cancelling the JSSC-CGL exam to protect the interests of the youth.

Formation of Reform Committee

To prevent such irregularities in the future and to overhaul the examination system, the state government has announced the formation of a high-level Reform Committee. This committee will be headed by IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is committed to implementing strict laws to safeguard student interests. "We're moving forward with a tough decision today. The reform committee under the chairmanship of IAS Amitabh Kaushal will look into the necessary changes required in the system," Soren said. He further added that the government aims to ensure complete transparency in the reform process.

Focus on SOPs and Transparency

During his interaction with the press, Chief Minister Hemant Soren pointed out that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for conducting examinations already exist. He noted that if these SOPs had been strictly followed, the current irregularities might not have occurred. The new reform process will involve adding better mechanisms to the existing SOPs to ensure a foolproof examination environment. The Chief Minister reiterated that the government's priority is to maintain the integrity of the recruitment process and provide a fair platform for all candidates.

Discussion on MMDR Act and Special Session

Beyond the immediate examination crisis, the Chief Minister also touched upon legislative matters. He mentioned that the state government would soon hold a meeting to discuss the amendments made by the Central Government to the MMDR Act. Soren indicated that if the situation warrants, a special session of the Jharkhand Assembly might be convened to deliberate on this specific issue. This highlights the government's proactive approach to both administrative reforms and legislative challenges.

Students Maintain Demand for CBI Probe

While the cancellation of the TDPL-conducted exams and the JSSC-CGL is seen as a significant concession by the government, the protesting students have not fully withdrawn their agitation. A large section of the student body remains firm on their demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged scams. They believe that only a central agency can uncover the full extent of the corruption and identify all the individuals involved in the paper leaks and irregularities. The government's latest move is seen as an attempt to pacify the protesters, but the call for a CBI probe continues to echo at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
