In a significant verdict, the Additional District Judge 12 court in Meerut has sentenced a woman named Ravita and her lover Amardeep to death for the murder of her husband, Amit Kashyap. While pronouncing the capital punishment, Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar observed that killing one's husband is equivalent to killing dharma or religion, noting that a husband is considered Parameshwar. The court deemed the case an exceptionally brutal murder wherein the perpetrators took a life and subsequently staged the scene to make it appear as an accidental demise caused by a snake bite.
Court Inquiries And Emotional Pleas Before Sentencing
Prior to handing down the capital punishment, the court heard the statements of both convicts through video conferencing. Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar asked Ravita and Amardeep regarding their wishes concerning the sentence. During this interaction, Ravita broke down and pleaded before the bench, citing the responsibility of caring for her 3 small children. Amardeep also wept before the court and made an appeal concerning the care and responsibility of his elderly parents. However, taking into account the grave nature and calculated cruelty of the crime, the court rejected leniency and awarded both convicts the death penalty.
The Murder Conspiracy And Attempted Cover Up
According to the police investigation and the arguments presented by the prosecution, Ravita conspired with her lover Amardeep to eliminate her husband Amit Kashyap. On the night of the incident, after Amit fell asleep inside his home, Amardeep entered the residence, while as per the prosecution case, Ravita held Amit's hands firmly while Amardeep pressed his neck, mouth, and nose, leading to Amit's death due to suffocation.
To conceal the crime and mislead investigators, the duo planned a deceptive cover-up. Amardeep had purchased a live snake from a snake charmer for 1000 rupees. The plan was to leave the serpent near the deceased to make it appear as though Amit had died from a venomous snake bite while sleeping.
Discovery Of The Body And Forensic Revelations
The following morning, Amit's body was discovered lying on his bed. Marks resembling a snake bite were visible on his body, and a live snake was found present in close proximity. Although initial impressions pointed toward a snake bite fatality, the subsequent post-mortem examination contradicted this narrative by establishing that Amit died of asphyxiation and suffocation.
Following the post-mortem report, the police intensified their investigation into the suspicious circumstances. Crucial inputs were obtained regarding the physical condition of the recovered snake. Snake charmers examined the reptile and revealed that it lacked teeth entirely. This revelation raised immediate questions regarding the possibility of Amit dying from a bite inflicted by a toothless snake. Connecting the post-mortem findings with the forensic and investigative evidence, the police uncovered the murder conspiracy, leading to the successful prosecution and ultimate death sentence for both Ravita and Amardeep.
