In a significant gesture prioritizing the convenience of students over official protocol, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to delay his convoy at the Delhi airport for approximately 45 minutes on the day of the NEET re-examination. The Prime Minister arrived at the Delhi airport at 1:15 PM and was scheduled to travel to his official residence. However, recognizing that the high-stakes medical entrance examination was set to begin at 2:00 PM, he chose to remain at the airport to prevent any potential traffic disruptions that his movement might cause for the candidates heading to their respective examination centers.
Prioritizing Students Over Protocol
The decision came at a crucial time when thousands of students were navigating Delhi's roads to reach their exam centers before the 2:00 PM deadline. Had the Prime Minister's convoy departed at 1:15 PM as per the original schedule, security protocols would have necessitated the closure of several key arterial roads in the national capital. Such a move could have led to significant traffic congestion, potentially causing delays for NEET aspirants, while understanding the pressure and importance of the examination for the students, PM Modi opted to wait at the airport until the exam commenced at 2:00 PM, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic for the examinees. It's reported that the Prime Minister left for his residence only after the examination process had officially started.
Scale of the NEET Re-Examination
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting this massive exercise across the country and even internationally. 79 lakh candidates are participating in the NEET examination this year, vying for a limited number of MBBS seats. The sheer volume of candidates makes this one of the most competitive and logistically challenging examinations in the world, while to accommodate such a large number of students, the NTA has established over 5000 examination centers. These centers are spread across 551 cities within India and 14 cities located abroad, highlighting the global reach of the entrance test.
Comprehensive Security and Administrative Arrangements
To ensure the integrity and fairness of the examination process, the NTA and the local administrations have implemented rigorous security measures. The deployment of personnel is extensive, with more than 2 lakh employees involved in the conduct of the exam. This includes 674 city coordinators and 6,669 observers who are tasked with monitoring the proceedings. The examination centers are equipped with advanced technology, including CCTV surveillance and jammers, to prevent any form of malpractice. Plus, a mandatory Aadhaar-based biometric verification system has been put in place to verify the identity of every candidate, ensuring a secure and transparent environment for the 22 lakh students appearing for the test today.
