The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday intensified its investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir by conducting simultaneous raids at the residences of all eight individuals arrested in connection with the case. The police teams, accompanied by local magistrates, carried out extensive search operations at the homes of the accused, including Lavkush Mishra, Avinash Shukla, and Ramashankar Yadav. During these raids, several incriminating items and assets were recovered, marking a significant step forward in the ongoing probe into the financial irregularities reported at the temple.

Details of the Recoveries and Raids

In a major crackdown related to the Ram Mandir donation theft case, the UP Police targeted the residences of all 8 named accused. One of the primary focuses of the raid was the house of Ram Shankar Yadav, also known as Tinnu. From Tinnu's residence, the police team managed to recover various items of jewelry and several important documents. In addition to the jewelry, the investigators also found a certain amount of cash and papers related to various properties. The police have seized these items as part of the evidence-gathering process.

During the course of the raids, the police didn't just focus on physical evidence but also recorded the statements of the family members of all the accused. This was done to understand the financial dealings and the lifestyle of the individuals involved. According to official sources, a comprehensive assessment of all the recovered items is expected to be completed by the evening. Following this assessment, the police will decide late at night whether to seek the police remand of the accused from the court on the following day for further interrogation.

Operations in Milkipur and Questioning

The search operations weren't limited to a single location. In the Milkipur rural area, the police teams raided the ancestral homes of the accused Anukalp Mishra and Lavkush Mishra. The investigators also reached the residence of Ramashankar Mishra, where they conducted a detailed questioning session with his family members. Sources close to the investigation have revealed that the police recovered some highly significant documents from Ramashankar Mishra's house. These documents are currently under strict scrutiny as they might provide deeper insights into how the donation funds were managed or diverted.

Background of the Case and SIT Investigation

The controversy surrounding the alleged embezzlement of funds at the Ram Mandir first came to light on June 7. It was sparked by claims made by Samajwadi Party leader Tej Narayan Pawan Pandey. Pandey had alleged that a substantial amount, ranging from 5 crore rupees to 7 crore 50 lakh rupees, had been embezzled from the offerings and donations made at the temple. These allegations created a significant stir, leading to demands for a thorough investigation.

Responding to the gravity of the situation and upon the request of the temple trust, the Uttar Pradesh government took decisive action. On June 13, the government officially constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT commenced its work promptly and conducted a preliminary investigation in Ayodhya from June 15 to June 20. During this initial phase, the SIT reportedly found prima facie evidence of irregularities in the management of cash and valuable items donated by the devotees.

Legal Action and the Accused

Based on the findings of the SIT's preliminary report, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against 8 named individuals. The charges have been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The list of the eight arrested individuals includes Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, Ramashankar Mishra, Manish Yadav, and Karunesh Pandey. It has been noted that Anukalp Mishra and Lavkush Mishra are relatives of each other and are also related to Anil Mishra.

Response from the Ram Mandir Trust

The Ram Mandir Trust has maintained a firm stance on the issue, assuring the millions of devotees that it's committed to a fair and transparent investigation, while in an official statement, the Trust expressed its deep concern over the developments. The Trust stated, "We're shocked, hurt, and extremely saddened by the events that have come to light over the past few days. " The Trust's commitment to transparency is seen as a move to maintain the faith of the devotees who contribute to the temple's construction and maintenance.
