The political landscape of West Bengal is set for a significant shift today as the state government prepares for a major cabinet expansion. It has been nearly a month since the new administration took charge, yet the council of ministers has remained largely understaffed. Until now, the governance was being managed by a small group of only 5 ministers who were sworn in during the initial phase. These include prominent leaders such as Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Khudiram Tudu. The remaining ministerial positions have been vacant, leading to much anticipation regarding the full formation of the cabinet.

Expansion Scheduled for Monday Morning

The wait for the cabinet expansion ends today, Monday, as the state prepares for a grand swearing-in ceremony, while according to official reports, the expansion is scheduled to take place at approximately 11 AM. A total of 35 MLAs are expected to be inducted into the council of ministers, filling the long-standing vacancies and providing a full-fledged structure to the state government. This move is seen as a crucial step towards streamlining the administration and accelerating developmental projects across various departments.

Prominent Names in the Potential List

Among the 35 legislators set to take the oath, several high-profile names have emerged as frontrunners for key ministerial berths. Swapan Dasgupta, the MLA from Rash Behari and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is at the top of the list, while there is strong speculation in political circles that he will be entrusted with a significant responsibility. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has reportedly already considered him for the Education Department, and experts believe he's likely to be appointed as the Education Minister of the state.

Another veteran politician expected to join the cabinet is Tapas Roy. Having secured a victory from the Maniktala assembly constituency, Roy brings extensive experience to the table. Following the formation of the new government, he has been serving as the acting speaker, overseeing the proceedings of the assembly and administering oaths to the newly elected MLAs until a permanent speaker is elected. Sources within the BJP suggest that his experience will be rewarded with an important ministerial portfolio in today's expansion.

The list of probable candidates for the new cabinet includes a diverse mix of leaders.
