Tata Motors, currently established as one of the largest electric vehicle manufacturers in India, is preparing to launch a significant new addition to its electric SUV portfolio, while ev, a model that has been showcased multiple times in various concepts and pre-production forms. It has now been confirmed that the official launch of this iconic nameplate in its electric avatar will take place within this month. This move is expected to further solidify Tata Motors' dominance in the rapidly growing Indian EV market.

Market Positioning and Competition

ev is expected to commence within a few weeks following its official launch. ev. This positioning allows Tata Motors to offer a diverse range of SUVs catering to different price points and consumer preferences. ev will face stiff competition from several high-profile rivals in the mid-size electric SUV segment, while its primary competitors include the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Maruti e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, and the VinFast VF6.

Exterior Design and Robust Aesthetics

ev remains faithful to the classic silhouette of the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Sierra, as seen in various test models. However, Tata Motors has implemented several specific design modifications to ensure the electric version is easily distinguishable from its petrol and diesel counterparts. ev features a completely closed, body-colored front grille. This design choice provides the SUV with a clean, modern, and more powerful appearance, while the front fascia is further enhanced by a connected LED light strip and a split headlight setup. On top of that, the SUV is equipped with LED fog lights and cornering lights to improve visibility and safety.

Side and Rear Profile Details

ev maintains a look that's largely consistent with the standard Sierra design language. It retains the signature Alpine-style rear quarter glass, which is a nod to the original Sierra's heritage. Other notable side features include flush-fitting door handles, large ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, and muscular body cladding that adds to its rugged appeal. The most significant update on the side profile is the introduction of new aerodynamic alloy wheels, which have been specifically engineered for this electric vehicle to optimize efficiency. ev shows a full-width LED light bar along with attractive LED tail lamps and turn indicators. The rear design is completed with a roof-mounted spoiler, a rear defogger, and a rear wiper that's cleverly hidden beneath the spoiler to maintain a sleek and uncluttered look.

Interior Technology and Premium Features

While Tata Motors has not officially disclosed the exact battery specifications, reports indicate that the SUV may be offered with two battery pack options, specifically 55 kWh and 65 kWh. ev. ev is expected to be up to 500 km on a single charge.
