The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant escalation in rhetoric as the state moves closer to the 2027 assembly elections. The discourse has shifted heavily towards caste equations and social representation, leading to a fierce war of words between the major political players. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has launched a direct and multi-pronged attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, focusing on the issues of nepotism, the representation of the Brahmin community, and the core ideologies of socialist icons like Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. Simultaneously, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has joined the fray, delivering a stinging critique of the Samajwadi Party's political strategies and labeling it a party that changes its colors like a chameleon.

Brajesh Pathak Challenges Akhilesh Yadav on Ideology and Nepotism

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak addressed Akhilesh Yadav directly, emphasizing that in a healthy democracy, political disagreements should be countered with ideological arguments rather than personal bitterness or false allegations. Pathak invoked the legacy of the renowned socialist thinker Dr, while ram Manohar Lohia to question the current direction of the Samajwadi Party. He pointed out that Lohia was one of the most staunch opponents of nepotism in Indian politics. According to Pathak, Lohia held the clear view that those who cling to their families will inevitably be cut off from society. The Deputy CM alleged that those who today claim to practice politics in the name of Lohia are the very ones who have abandoned his fundamental principles first.

Pathak further elaborated that if Dr. Lohia were alive today, he would have held those who make nepotism the foundation of their politics accountable. He asserted that Lohia would never have accepted a political system designed solely to bring power to a single family. By framing the SP's current leadership as a departure from Lohia's anti-dynastic stance, Pathak sought to undermine the ideological legitimacy of Akhilesh Yadav's leadership. He argued that the politics of family-centric power is the antithesis of the social justice that the SP claims to represent.

The Brahmin Community and the Question of Social Justice

In addition to the charge of nepotism, Brajesh Pathak took aim at Akhilesh Yadav's recent attempts to reach out to the Brahmin community. Pathak claimed that while Akhilesh Yadav is now posing as a well-wisher of the Brahmin society, the public has not forgotten his past actions. He specifically mentioned alleged comments made by Yadav where he reportedly asked journalists about their caste, suggesting that such behavior reveals a deep-seated bias. Pathak argued that the true upliftment of society doesn't come from securing power for one family but from providing equal opportunities, justice, and respect to every section of society, including the Brahmins.

Responding to allegations leveled against his own public life, the Deputy CM stated that the ultimate evaluation of a leader's work is done by the public. He maintained that throughout his career, he has prioritized the organization, the Constitution, and public service above all else. Pathak dismissed personal attacks, derogatory language, and propaganda as tools that can't alter the truth or diminish the trust the public has placed in him. He contrasted the BJP's political philosophy, which he described as being based on the principles of Nation First, Organization Supreme, and Antyodaya (uplifting the last person), with what he termed the family-oriented politics of the SP, which seeks to limit power to a single household.

Mayawati Labels Samajwadi Party as Chameleon-like

The political heat was further intensified by BSP supremo Mayawati, who took to the social media platform X to launch a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party. Mayawati described the SP as a party that changes its colors like a chameleon to suit its political interests, while she asserted that the Bahujan Samaj Party remains the only true Ambedkarite party that follows the policy and principle of Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay (the welfare and happiness of all). She claimed that the previous BSP governments in Uttar Pradesh were run strictly on these inclusive principles, unlike the SP, which she accused of practicing narrow, caste-based politics for electoral gains.

The PDA Formula and the Shift from Pichhda to Pandit

A major point of contention in Mayawati's critique was the Samajwadi Party's PDA formula. Originally, the SP promoted PDA as representing Pichhda (Backward), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (Minority). However, Mayawati alleged that the SP has now started reinterpreting the P in PDA to mean Pandit (Brahmin). She claimed this shift is a desperate reaction to the fact that the upper caste society, particularly the Brahmin community, is aligning with the BSP. According to Mayawati, the SP is perturbed by the BSP's strategy of fielding candidates from these communities and is So trying to deceive the public with new definitions.

Mayawati characterized this as a prime example of the Samajwadi Party's political deception, while she warned that while such manipulative politics might provide temporary benefits to certain individuals, it can't lead to the genuine welfare of society as a whole. She appealed to people from all sections of society to remain vigilant against the SP's narrow caste-based politics. She concluded that staying cautious of the Samajwadi Party's tactics is in the best interest of the entire social fabric of Uttar Pradesh. As the state prepares for the 2027 elections, these conflicting political lines from the BJP, BSP, and SP indicate that the battle for social and caste-based support will only become more intense in the coming months.
