Efforts to conclude the conflict between the United States and Iran have intensified following a high-level meeting between US Vice President JD Vance and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. This meeting occurred as Washington awaits a formal response from Iran regarding a proposed peace agreement. According to reports, a concise one-page agreement has been drafted to facilitate the cessation of hostilities and pave the way for broader diplomatic engagement.

One-Page Peace Agreement and Nuclear Talks

The drafted agreement focuses on halting the current conflict and includes a framework to initiate discussions on significant issues, such as Iran's nuclear program, while uS Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism regarding the process, stating that he expects Iran to provide its response shortly. Rubio emphasized that the United States intends to pursue these negotiations with seriousness to achieve a permanent resolution to the ongoing tensions.

Qatar's Strategic Back-Channel Role

While Pakistan currently serves as the official mediator between the US and Iran, Qatar is playing a critical role through back-channel communications. US officials believe Qatar's involvement is essential for maintaining a dialogue with the Iranian leadership. Demonstrating the urgency of the situation, the Qatari Prime Minister traveled to Washington specifically for this meeting and departed immediately after its conclusion. Sources indicate that Qatar is a vital part of the ongoing secret contacts between the two nations.

Direct Coordination with IRGC and Pakistan

Reports suggest that Qatari officials are in direct contact with senior leaders of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who are the primary decision-makers regarding the war and diplomatic negotiations. Qatar is coordinating its efforts closely with Pakistan. Prior to his visit to Washington, the Qatari Prime Minister held discussions with the Prime Minister of Pakistan to align their mediation strategies.

Qatar has a history of facilitating communication between the US and Iran. During the Geneva talks held before the outbreak of war in June 2025, Qatari officials were actively involved behind the scenes. Although Oman was the official mediator at that time, Qatar provided essential support in maintaining the dialogue. Currently, Qatar and Pakistan continue to work in tandem to ensure that secret communication channels between Washington and Tehran remain functional as the world awaits Iran's response.
