India / 30 passengers rescued after Naxals derail train in Chhattisgarh

Dantewada: The Chhattisgarh Police rescued at least 30 passengers on Friday after Naxals derailed a train they were travelling in near Dantewada. All passengers have safely returned to their respective homes, confirmed the police.

According to Dantewada Superintendant of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallav, a passenger train carrying 30 passengers was derailed by Naxals between Bhansi and Bacheli on late Friday night.

The train got derailed but no passenger was hurt. The District Reserve Guard jawans were immediately rushed to the derailment site as they helped in safely evacuating the passengers from the train.

All 30 passengers onboard were evacuated and moved to a safe spot before being sent to their homes.

The train derailment has come days after a Naxal leader was killed by security forces in Neelawaya forest near Dantewada.

Naxal with Rs 5 lakh bounty killed in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada

A Naxal carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head was killed in a exchange of fire with Dantewada District Reserve Guard, in Neelawaya forest on April 20.

"In Exchange of fire with Dantewada DRG today morning at about 6 am in jungles of Neelawaya, a dead body of Maoist has been recovered, who has been identified as Kosa, resident of Mallapara, Neelawaya," said Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallav.

The DRG team also recovered one 9 mm pistol, one country-made Bharmar, one 3 kg IED, pithoos, medicines and items of daily use from the encounter site.

He was active in the Maoist organisation for the past 15 years and was currently a Malangir area committee member and Military intelligence in charge.

SP further said that he has more than 15 crimes registered against him in different police stations.
