Gold Smuggling / 61 kg gold seized at Mumbai airport, 7 people arrested

Gold Smuggling: Customs officials seized a large amount of gold at the Mumbai airport on Friday. Along with this, the officials have arrested 7 people including 2 women. An official of the Customs Department said, "During the investigation on Friday, 7 people were arrested in two different cases and 61 kg gold was recovered from them." He told that this is the highest seizure in a day in the history of Mumbai Airport Customs.

The four passengers were sent on remand for 14 days

In the first case, the Customs Department arrested four Indian nationals who had come from Tanzania. All four were wearing a specially designed belt. In which gold was hidden. A customs official said that a total of 53 kg gold worth Rs 28.17 crore was recovered from the four passengers. The gold, concealed in a UAE-designed belt, was handed over to passengers at Doha airport by a Sudanese national. All the four passengers have been arrested and taken on 14 days judicial remand.

Police is probing both cases

Meanwhile, in another case, acting on intelligence inputs, Mumbai airport officials seized 8 kg gold worth Rs 3.88 crore from three passengers. He reached via flight from Dubai. Gold in the form of wax was being brought by hiding it in the waist of jeans pants. Of the three passengers, one female passenger was in a wheelchair. All the three passengers have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is on in the matter.
