Following the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the new administration. In an extensive post on the social media platform X, the nephew of Mamata Banerjee raised serious concerns regarding the electoral process and the subsequent developments in the state. He questioned the integrity of the voter list, the counting process, and the incidents of post-poll violence that have surfaced.
Allegations of Removing 30 Lakh Genuine Voters
Abhishek Banerjee claimed that the elections in West Bengal were conducted under extremely challenging circumstances. He alleged that the names of approximately 30 lakh 'genuine voters' were purportedly removed from the voter lists. According to the TMC leader, the conduct of the Election Commission and several government agencies appeared biased, which has cast a shadow of doubt over the fairness, credibility, and transparency of the entire electoral exercise.
Demands for Counting Transparency and CCTV Footage
The TMC leader also highlighted alleged irregularities in the vote-counting process and the functioning of Control Units. He has formally demanded that the CCTV footage from all counting centers be made public. On top of that, Banerjee insisted on a transparent counting of VVPAT slips to address the skepticism prevalent among the public regarding the election results and to ensure that the democratic mandate is accurately reflected.
Concerns Over Post-Poll Violence and Worker Safety
Expressing grave concern over reports of post-poll violence, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that TMC offices were targeted and party workers were subjected to intimidation. He stated that numerous supporters were forced to flee their homes due to the prevailing atmosphere of fear. He emphasized that in a functional democracy, no political worker should ever be forced to choose between their political ideology and their personal safety.
Regarding the party's future course of action, Abhishek Banerjee affirmed that the TMC would continue its struggle to uphold constitutional values and democratic traditions. He stated that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the party would play the role of a formidable opposition in both West Bengal and Delhi. Concluding his statement, he appealed to TMC workers to remain united and encouraged anyone facing violence or threats to contact him directly, assuring them that the party would fight every legal and democratic battle necessary.
