Adani Enterprises: Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of Adani Group, has bought about 30 percent stake in online train ticket booking platform Trainman for Rs 3.5 crore. Means now Adani Group will also sell train tickets online. Adani Enterprises announced last month that it has signed an agreement to acquire 100 per cent stake in SEPL. In a stock exchange filing on Saturday, Adani Enterprises said that Adani Digital Labs Pvt Ltd has bought 29.81 per cent stake in SEPL for Rs 3.56 crore. SEPL had a turnover of Rs 4.51 crore in the financial year 2022-23 (April 2022 to March 2023).

Last month, Adani Enterprises described SEPL as "an online train booking and information platform" and today on Saturday it described the company as one of "e-commerce and website development". Last month's announcement sparked a minor controversy, with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh suggesting that Trainman's takeover by Adani could result in the takeover of IRCTC, the ticketing and other service branches of the Indian Railways .

Around 14.5 lakh tickets are booked daily

Regarding the e-ticketing business segment, IRCTC had said that about 14.5 lakh reserved tickets are booked daily in Indian Railways. About 81% of these are e-tickets and are booked through IRCTC only. So there is no competition between IRCTC and its agents including trainmen.

Trainman, being a B2C partner of IRCTC, contributes 0.13 per cent to the total reserved ticketing, it said, adding that these companies are integrated with IRCTC, overall, they help customers in smooth ticketing process.

Trainman is a travel booking app

Trainman, founded in 2011 by Vineet Chirania and Karan Kumar, is an Indian travel booking app that enables travelers to check PNR (passenger name record) status, indicating their chances of getting a confirmed seat in case of a waiting list. , and also provides real time updates on seat availability, running status, time table, coach status, fare, calculator etc. etc.

Trainman is Adani Group's second investment in the travel booking and information sector. In October 2021, Adani Enterprises bought online travel aggregator Flipkart's stake in Cleartrip Pvt Ltd.
