IPL 2023: The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start from 31 March. This time a total of 74 matches including playoffs and finals will be played. This tournament will run for 52 days between 10 teams and the final match will be played on 28 May. A lot of new and special things are going to happen in this IPL season. As everyone knows that this time the Impact Player Rule is being implemented in IPL. Under this, the captains of the teams will keep 4 players as substitutes, any one of whom can be replaced by someone in the middle of the match. This rule will be applicable to foreign players only when there are less than 4 foreign players in the playing 11 already. Apart from this, recently the rule of announcing the playing 11 after the toss was revealed. Apart from these two, there is one more such rule which will come into action in the upcoming season of IPL.

Let us tell you that this rule is related to the review system ie DRS. Let us tell you that in IPL each team is given two DRS in an innings. Till now DRS is taken only against the decision of out or not out. But now the scope of this rule has been extended. As everyone knows that T20 cricket is a fast game. Every single run is also very important in this. It has been seen many times in the past that some decisions of field umpires overshadow any one team. Apart from out or not out, there are some other decisions which make every run necessary at the end of the match. Keeping the same in mind, the rule of DRS has been changed.

What is the new rule of DRS?

Talking about the changed rule of DRS, till now only the decision on out or not out used to go for review. But now if a suspicious wide or no ball is being given by the field umpire, then the captain can review it as well. If we talk about no ball, then the no ball of the leg is a different thing, which the captain may hesitate to challenge, but this rule can prove to be effective in terms of no ball of height which is a full toss above the waist. A few months ago, during the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup, there was a lot of controversy over the no ball given against Virat Kohli. Keeping that in mind, this rule has been changed. At the same time, it can prove to be very important in terms of wide ball.

Having talked about the impact rule and DRS, let us also briefly talk about the toss rule. In fact, earlier it used to happen that while going to the toss, the captain used to carry a team sheet in which the playing 11 was there. But now captains will have the option of carrying two sheets. That is, two different teams made with the strategy of bowling first or batting first. Accordingly, after the toss, the captain can finalize the playing 11. This rule will give freedom to the captains and teams to make their strategy according to the toss.
