Asia Cup 2025 / Ashwin is unable to understand this decision of the selectors regarding Asia Cup

The Indian team for Asia Cup 2025 has been announced, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer have been left out of the squad. Former all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin criticized the selectors on this decision. He said that it is not right to ignore World Cup winning players.

Asia Cup 2025: Asia Cup 2025 is starting from September 9, and the Indian cricket team has announced its squad for this tournament. Many great players have been included in this team, but two big names - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer - have been ignored this time. Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has strongly criticized the Indian selectors for ignoring these two players. Ashwin specifically said about Yashasvi Jaiswal that the selectors dropped an important player from the T20 World Cup 2024 winning Indian team.

Ravichandran Ashwin reprimands selectors

Yashasvi Jaiswal was part of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, which won the title by defeating South Africa in the final. Ashwin expressed his opinion on this matter on his official YouTube channel and said,

“You removed the player from the World Cup winning team and gave a place to Shubman Gill in Team India. You have Yashasvi Jaiswal as the third opener, who was part of Team India that won the T20 World Cup 2024. What I mean to say is that I am very happy that Shubman has got a chance, but I am very sad for Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. This has not been right with both these players.”

Talking about Shreyas Iyer, Ashwin further said,

“You look at Iyer's ability. He was out of the team, but he made a comeback in the Champions Trophy and batted brilliantly. He performed brilliantly in the Champions Trophy 2025 and played an important role in the victory. Shreyas did everything right. He also performed brilliantly for Kolkata Knight Riders and led them to victory. After this, he took Punjab Kings to the final for the first time since 2014. He used to have trouble on short balls, but in the Indian Premier League, he batted brilliantly against bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Kagiso Rabada.”
