IPL 2024: The spectacle of the world's biggest cricket league is going to start again. For the fans who have been waiting for the start of the new season of IPL for the last 10 months, that moment has finally arrived. On Friday, March 22, the IPL 2024 season will begin with the clash between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium i.e. Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Like every time, this season too some new players will be eager to show their mettle, while there will also be hopes of finding a new champion. Apart from all this, a new rule will also be seen in IPL this time but BCCI is not implementing the two new rules of ICC in the tournament.

Bowlers will get advantage

There is going to be a battle for the title between 10 teams in the 17th season of IPL. Although every season is special, but in true sense this season is going to be more special for the fast bowlers. In this format, the power of the bowlers who take a lot of beating in the grounds with small boundaries has increased this season because the Indian Board has allowed 2 bouncers in an over. From T20 International to other T20 tournaments in the world, there is a rule of only one bouncer in an over.

BCCI had implemented this rule for the first time in the last season of the domestic T20 tournament, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and now it is being introduced in the IPL as well. However, this rule is applicable in Test and ODI in international cricket. The Indian Board has decided to field it in the world's most famous T20 league and in case of success here, emphasis can also be laid on fielding it in International T20.

BCCI will not follow ICC rules

However, the Indian Board is not going to implement those two rules which ICC had recently implemented in international cricket. One of these rules is completely new – stop clock. That means the time between two overs. To stop time wasting in T20 cricket, ICC has decided to implement this, under which after the end of one over, only 60 seconds will be given to start the next over. If this does not happen the fielding team gets punished.

At the same time, the second rule is not new, but is a change in the old rule. Till now it used to be that in case of stumping, the third umpire would also check the possibility of catch and then check the stumping. But teams were misusing it, after which ICC banned catch checking in case of stumping. BCCI does not agree with this and has retained the rule of stumping as well as catch checking in IPL. BCCI believes that this will prevent losses to the fielding team.

DRS decisions will come fast

Apart from all this, BCCI has also started Smart Replay System this time, under which the third umpire and the Hawk-Eye operator will be sitting in the same room and the third umpire will directly see the pictures of the Hawk-Eye camera. This will reduce the delay in watching replays and taking decisions and will enable faster decisions in any referral or close cases.
