Earlier this stadium had a seating capacity of only 53000 spectators. Earlier, Eden Gardens was the largest cricket stadium in India with a capacity of about 80,000.

There are a total of 11 pitches in the Narendra Modi Stadium. The pitch here has been prepared using three types of soil (black, red and a mixture of both). The first international cricket match in this stadium was the T20 match between India and England in February 2021. Use of LED light system

One of the most unique features of the Narendra Modi Stadium is that the stadium has LED lights installed on the sides of the roof which illuminate the entire ground. The latest 360° LED light system, mounted on a ring on the inner edge of the roof, does not create shadows on the ground.
