The central government has spent more than Rs 9,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir in the 28 months after the abrogation of Article 370. Such a huge amount has been spent on the special security of the Union Territory. Article 370 and 35(A) were repealed with the formation of the Union Territory on August 5, 2019.


 In the recently released Annual Report 2020-2021 of the Union Home Ministry, it has been mentioned that the Government of India has released Rs 9,120.69 crore to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir under the Security Related (Police) Scheme to strengthen the security apparatus. According to the report, this amount includes Rs 448.04 crore, which was spent after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir till December 31, 2020.



Apart from this, the report said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has also approved the creation of five India Reserve (IR) battalions, two border battalions and two women's battalions for Jammu and Kashmir. The recruitment for the five India Reserve Battalions has already been completed.


Home Ministry officials said the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is monitored and regularly reviewed by the Jammu and Kashmir government, the Army, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other security agencies. The report said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is also closely monitoring the security situation in collaboration with all agencies and the Ministry of Defense. The multi-pronged approach to prevent cross-border infiltration also includes multi-level deployment at the international level.

 

PM Modi announced a package of 80 thousand crores

The annual report also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a development package of Rs 80,068 crore for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP-2015), which includes 63 major projects in critical sectors. Huh. These schemes include roads, electricity, new renewable energy, tourism, health, education, water resources, sports, urban development, defense and clothing.


Work on 20 out of 63 projects largely completed

The report said that out of 63 projects, 54 projects are being implemented in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with an outlay of Rs 58,627 crore. It has also been said that 20 projects have been completed or are nearing completion. The report also mentioned that an amount of Rs 32,136 crore has been released for various projects till November 30, 2020, out of which Rs 30,553 crore has been utilized.
